The Wine Shop at Home parent company, 1-800WineShop was launched in 1996 by husband and wife team John and Melissa Lynch. They started with catalog and phone sales of limited production wines, and in 2003 the direct sales division was launched.

Independent consultants now conduct guided wine tastings in 16 states and the company ships products to 25 states. In addition to individual bottles wine, the company sells gift baskets and offers wine clubs and custom wine labeling.
